How to Attach a Wrap Ponytail to the Base of Dutch Braids

Looking to complete your Dutch braid hairstyle with a flawless finish? Here’s how to securely attach a our wrap ponytail extension—Dutch Braid Pigtails Set—to the base of your Dutch braids for a polished, secure look that lasts through performance, practice, or comp day.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Create Your Base Ponytail

Start by gathering all of your hair, including the ends of your Dutch braids, into a ponytail at the desired placement.

• Use at least 2-3 strong hair ties. Use the provided larger cotton rubber band as your last rubber band on your ponytail. This style of cotton rubber band provides a base for the velcro on the posh to adhere to.
• Make sure the ponytail is tight and secure, as it needs to support the weight of the posh.
• If you're choosing to wear your natural hair down with your Dutch Braid Pigtail Posh, be sure to style your hair to match the pigtails for a seamless blend. This Posh style can be worn by keeping your natural hair in two low ponytails or by securing it into two buns underneath each pigtail for added volume and grip.
• Tip: Backcombing a small section at the root before attaching your posh can help anchor the comb that are attached to the posh.

2. Attach, Sew, and Secure The Perfect Posh Ponytail

• Slide the comb attachment into the top base of your natural ponytail or bun—ideally just under the hair tie for maximum hold. To sew in your Perfect Posh using the provided needle and thread, follow these steps:
  • Start by sewing through the base of your natural hair, just above the hair tie.
  • Then bring the needle underneath the Posh ponytail to the opposite side.
  • Sew back up through your natural hair on the other side of the ponytail, near the hair tie.
  • Repeat this stitching pattern 4 to 8 times, going back and forth, to create a secure hold. Tie and knot at the end. 
  • Make sure each stitch is tight to keep your Posh firmly in place during performances.
• Once your Perfect Posh ponytail is secure with sewing, wrap the remaining section of hair (built into your Perfect Posh) to conceal the band and hair tie, wrapping it all the way around.
  • If the wrap-around section of your Posh gets in the way or feels unnecessary, it’s perfectly okay to trim it off.
  • Carefully cut just the wrap portion without damaging the main ponytail attachment. This won’t affect the functionality or security of your Posh.
  • Use additional bobby pins to secure the wrapped section for extra hold and a polished finish. 

3. Blend & Style

• Gently brush or finger comb the extension to blend it with your natural hair.
• Add more bobby pins if needed to ensure a snug fit.
• You can style your Perfect Posh ponytail before or after applying it, depending on your look.

4. Tips for a Secure, Long-Lasting Fit

• Always start with a tight, well-secured ponytail of your natural hair.
• Backcomb a bit at the base for extra grip before inserting the extension comb.
• Make sure Velcro is fully secured and flat.
• Sew in place.
• Smooth flyaways with hairspray or a styling gel for that comp-ready finish.

Select a color from our color guide that you believe best matches your athlete's hair. Then email us 4-6 photos of their hair in good, natural light so we can confirm correct color match. Photos should be in indoor and outdoor lighting. Hair should be in a high ponytail. Send front, side and back views of hair in ponytail. Opt for a neutral background to keep the focus on your hair. HELPFUL TIP FOR COLOR MATCHING:a

Close your eyes and visualize the athlete’s ponytail. When selecting a color, aim to match the shade of their natural ponytail. Since the posh will be attached to their bun, only the roots of their hair will be visible. The roots are usually darker than the rest of the hair, so matching the natural ponytail color ensures that the posh ponytail doesn’t look darker than expected.

IS FALLOUT NORMAL?

Yes, it's perfectly normal to notice some fallout on the edges of your cheer ponytail when you first receive it. Each cheer posh ponytail is custom handmade, and during this process, some natural shedding can occur. This is a common part of creating a high-quality, personalized product and does not affect the overall durability or appearance of your ponytail. If you have any concerns or experience significant shedding, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us for assistance.
