Your Posh, Your Method: Spiral Pins, Sewing, or Zip Ties—What Works for You - The Perfect Posh

Your Posh, Your Method: Spiral Pins, Sewing, or Zip Ties—What Works for You

When it comes to installing your Perfect Posh, there’s one rule that matters most: it needs to stay in place. Your cheer ponytail should hold strong from the moment you hit warm-ups to the final tumbling pass on the mat. That’s why using the right method to secure your Posh is just as important as the style itself.

There’s no single “right” way to attach your cheer ponytail—but we do recommend a few tried-and-true techniques that offer the most support and stay put through every flip, jump, and stunt.

Spiral Pin Method

Quick, effective, and surprisingly secure, the Spiral Pin Method is a go-to for athletes and parents looking for fast install with serious staying power.

What you'll need:

  • Spiral bobby pins (4 total)
  • U-shaped bobby pins
  • Claw clip
  • Optional: donut bun for added volume

Steps:

  1. Start with a high, tight bun at the top-center of the head. Use a donut bun if the natural hair is short or thin.
  2. Position your Posh so the bungee cord sits snugly at the base of the bun. Hold it in place.
  3. Split the front layer of hair in the ponytail net and screw in your first spiral pin—straight into the bun and parallel to the scalp.
  4. Clip the loose hair out of the way.
  5. Slowly tighten the bungee cord, keeping it low and close to the bun.
  6. Add a minimum of three more spiral pins: one on each side and one in the back.
  7. Wrap the bungee cord around the bun and secure it using U-shaped bobby pins.
  8. Let the hair down and add your bow. Done!

Sew-In Method

If you’re prepping for a big comp or just want max security, sewing in your Perfect Posh is the most durable option.

What you'll need:

  • Plastic needle
  • Thread (approx. 2 ft)
  • Claw clip
  • U-shaped bobby pins
  • Optional: donut bun

Steps:

  1. Start with a clean bun on the crown. Use a donut bun if extra structure is needed.
  2. Place the ponytail net over the bun, positioning the cord under or around the base.
  3. Tighten the bungee cord slightly to hold it in place.
  4. Clip the hair out of the way for easier sewing.
  5. Begin sewing from the back, threading through the net and bun, close to the scalp.
  6. Repeat the stitch around the bun about 8–10 times.
  7. Tie the thread securely and trim the excess.
  8. Let the hair down, smooth it out, and finish with your bow.

What Not to Do

Whatever method you choose, (sewing, zip ties, or spiral pins), do not rely solely on the bungee cord or comb that comes with the Perfect Posh net. These are meant to assist with placement—but not to hold the ponytail in place during performance. If used alone, your Posh may shift or even fall out during a routine.

Another option that’s gaining popularity is zip ties. We’ve seen many athletes use this technique successfully—but just like any method, the key is making sure it’s secure, discreet, and won’t move.

Choose the Method That Works for You

Every athlete has different preferences—and every competition day has its own demands. The most important thing is that your cheer ponytail feels secure, looks clean, and holds from start to finish.
