Step-by-Step: How to Sew In Your Cheer Posh Ponytail Like a Pro

Installing your Perfect Posh cheer ponytail using the Sew-In Method is one of the most secure ways to ensure your hair stays flawless through every flip, stunt, and full-out. This method is a favorite among athletes and parents who want long-lasting hold and a polished, professional look. Whether you’re competing at NCA, Summit, or a local showcase, sewing in your cheer ponytail provides unmatched stability and confidence on the mat. In this step-by-step guide, we’ll show you exactly how to sew in your cheer ponytail for a competition-ready style that lasts all day—with no slipping, sagging, or last-minute fixes.

Sew In Method

  1. make a bun on the top, center of head (if hair is thin or short, we highly recommend using a donut bun to create a larger bun)
  2. center front of the posh on bun so the cord is placed at base of bun and hold with hand until next step is complete
  3. slowly tighten bungee cord while making sure the cord is close to base or under bun
  4. use a claw clip to secure the hair out of the way for the following steps
  5. wrap the cord around the bun and secure with U shaped bobby pins
  6. cut a string about 2 ft long, thread your needle and tie knot in string near needle
  7. start in the back of the bun and feed the needle through the hair laying flat to the head, and then through the bun near the base, making sure to go through the net as well
  8. repeat the step above while working your way around the entire bun (about 10x is plenty), then tie each end of string together at the back of the bun
  9. let hair down out of claw clip and add your bow
